"Just in our own tiny blip of recorded history, humanity has matured mentally and emotionally during our time on this planet. We no longer accept it as normal for our governments to torture someone to death in the town square, for example, and owning another human being as property is now seen as reprehensible. "

We still would if we could get away with it, or had an excuse. We get pleasure from seeing our enemies on the other side of our invented political dichotomy suffer, because they 'deserve' it.

We express glee at the thought that an official bad guy might get raped in prison.

And although we claim to be against ownership & enslavement, we incarcerate more than any country on earth, and we think that wage labor is normal & necessary.

I guess what I’m trying to say, in many of my comments, is that we aren’t qualified to determine how good we are. That requires an external observer, and they haven’t contacted us collectively in any way that we understand.

We may as well dispense with self-assessments, and focus on the goals, not on how terrific we are.
