Everytime I use these IDEs, “I feel…. heavy”

Yes! We’re not alone, after all!

Yes, that’s the big problem with Intellij (my favorite, for Groovy development), and Eclipse and similar workhorses. There’s this bloated feeling.

It helps to have an SSD drive that speeds things up ; but with these ‘feature-rich’ tools, there’s still an awareness that there’s LOTS of things going on in the background.

A regular text editor like UltraEdit or Atom, configured for Debugging and REPLing, comes up much quicker, and has most of the features that I want for development. I haven’t done Atom for a while, but will look into it this week.

There’s also the portability factor. I don’t know about Atom, but you can run NightCode or UltraEdit or Notepad++ from a flash drive.

Thanks for reminding me about Atom.
